In a massive win for Nigeria’s anti-graft campaign, an FCT High Court in Abuja has ordered the final and permanent forfeiture of luxury assets valued at nearly ₦9 billion linked to businesswoman Aisha Achimugu.
Justice Jude Onwugbuzie approved the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) application for final forfeiture after Achimugu failed to prove that the high-value items were acquired through legitimate income streams.
Details of the Forfeited Financial Portfolio:
- Luxury Jewelry: Valued at an astronomical ₦4,645,170,294.90.
- Exotic Fleet: 11 high-end vehicles (including Lamborghinis and Rolls-Royces) valued at ₦4,293,000,000.
- Hard Cash: $50,000 and ₦30 million recovered from her residence.
How the EFCC Uncovered the Funds
According to EFCC investigators, the seizure followed intelligence tracking massive, unexplained inflows and outflows through more than 136 bank accounts linked to Achimugu and her business entities. The anti-graft agency further revealed that substantial revenues moving through her companies were completely hidden and left undeclared in financial statements submitted to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
This judgment deals another heavy financial blow to the businesswoman, coming just months after a Federal High Court ordered her oil and gas firm, Oceangate, to permanently forfeit $13 million to the state in March.
As Nigeria relies heavily on non-conviction asset recovery to bolster its treasury during ongoing fiscal challenges, this represents one of the largest single-individual forfeitures in recent history.
