Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima has earlier departed the country to lead key discussions at the 2025 World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland. The event which held from January 20 – 24, 2025, brings together global leaders, business executives, and policymakers to address pressing economic and societal challenges.
Vice President Shettima engaged in the following high-level discussions focusing on economic development, investment opportunities, and sustainable growth strategies for Nigeria and the African continent;
- African Development Bank Workshop: Vice President Shettima participated in a workshop organized by the African Development Bank (AfDB) titled “Roadmap to Co-create Investment Opportunities for Africa’s Frontier Markets.” This session focused on driving capital flows into Africa to support inclusive development and resilience across the continent. A significant highlight was the launch of the Humanitarian and Resilience Investing (HRI) Roadmap for Africa, aiming to foster public-private partnerships and attract investments into Africa’s emerging markets.
- Digital Trade Forum: He co-chaired a forum on “Turning Digital Trade into a Catalyst for Growth in Africa” at the Pischa Congress Centre. The discussion centered on leveraging the private sector to accelerate the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Digital Trade Protocol, a framework adopted by African Union leaders in January 2024.
- Global Risks 2025 Panel: Vice President Shettima was a panelist in a session titled “Global Risks 2025” at the Aspen 2 Congress Centre. This dialogue explored critical geopolitical, technological, and environmental risks shaping the global landscape.
His participation reflects Nigeria’s commitment to active involvement in global economic dialogues and its pursuit of partnerships that foster national and regional prosperity.
The WEF Annual Meeting serves as a platform for countries to showcase their economic potential and to attract foreign investment.
