In a rare but striking move, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has issued a circular calling on its staff and the general public to participate in national fasting and prayer sessions. The circular, dated June 11, 2025, invites all ministry staff to observe prayers every Monday — specifically June 16, 23, and 30 — at Conference Hall B between 12:00 PM and 12:30 PM.
The directive is aimed at seeking divine intervention in addressing Nigeria’s growing concerns around food insecurity, climate change, and agricultural productivity. According to the circular, the ministry believes that beyond policy and planning, there is a need to also “acknowledge God in our efforts to ensure food sufficiency.”
This comes amid rising inflation in food prices, unpredictable weather patterns affecting harvests, and insecurity disrupting farming activities in key regions of the country.
While the move has sparked mixed reactions from Nigerians on social media, with some praising it as a show of faith and others questioning its practicality, it underscores the ministry’s acknowledgment of the spiritual dimension to the nation’s development challenges.
