Nigerian defense technology and robotics start-up, Terra Industries has closed an additional $18 million funding extension, pushing its total seed financing to a record-breaking $52 million.
Founded in 2024 by Nathan Nwachuku and Maxwell Maduka, the startup develops autonomous aerial drones, interceptors, surveillance towers, and unmanned ground vehicles powered by its proprietary operating system, ArtemisOS.
The latest tranche saw participation from existing investors including 8VC, Silent Ventures, Nova Global, Belief Capital, and SV Angel, alongside new backing from Norleo Space Investments and angel investor Grant Gordon.
Key Milestones & Growth Strategy
- Africa’s Largest Drone Factory: A major portion of the capital will finance the launch of Pax-2, a 34,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Ghana opening in Q4 2026. Designed to complement Terra’s original 15,000-square-foot flagship facility in Abuja (Pax-1), Pax-2 is projected to produce up to 50,000 aerial units annually by 2028.
- Global Footprint & London Office: Terra Industries is establishing its first international sales and operations office in London to engage global defense institutions, while keeping core manufacturing rooted on the African continent.
- Infrastructure Protection Across the Global South: Terra’s security systems are already deployed to safeguard power grids, mining installations, and critical infrastructure assets valued at approximately $11 billion across multiple African nations.
Why This Matters for Africa’s Tech Ecosystem
Terra Industries’ $52 million seed round represents one of the largest early-stage raises by any African-founded hardware or defense technology startup. The capital surge highlights growing institutional investor appetite for locally built autonomous systems capable of protecting critical infrastructure across emerging markets in Africa, Latin America, Asia and the Middle East.
