To ensure the banking sector remains stable and borrowers stay disciplined, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has ordered financial institutions to limit services for major loan defaulters who have failed to repay significant loans.
This new policy was communicated through a formal letter issued on March 12, 2026. Signed by Olubukola Akinwunmi, the Director of Banking Supervision, the directive aims to protect the integrity of the national financial system by penalizing high-value defaulters.
