NIMC Launches WhatsApp, Live Chat Support Channels to Accelerate NIN Support

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has today, May 13, 2026, officially launched two new digital support channels: an official WhatsApp platform and a website-integrated Live Chat feature.

The initiative, announced by the Commission’s Head of Corporate Communications, Dr. Kayode Adegoke, is designed to provide Nigerians and legal residents with faster, real-time assistance for National Identification Number (NIN) related enquiries and complaints.

Bridging the Gap through Digital Innovation
The introduction of these platforms marks a significant shift in NIMC’s operational strategy. Historically, Nigerians have often had to visit overcrowded enrolment centers for routine enquiries, data modifications, or status checks. The new digital channels aim to drastically reduce the need for physical visits by providing immediate virtual guidance.

According to the Commission, the new support framework includes:
Official WhatsApp Support Line: Citizens can now message +234 701 566 6971 to receive prompt responses to common issues.
Integrated Live Chat: A dedicated feature now active on the official NIMC website (www.nimc.gov.ng) allows for real-time interaction with support agents.

Aligning with the “Renewed Hope” Agenda
The Director-General and CEO of NIMC, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, noted that this rollout is a core component of the Commission’s ongoing digital transformation reforms. These reforms are aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes public sector efficiency and the expansion of government services through technology-driven solutions.

“The newly introduced platforms are designed to provide prompt responses to enquiries, real-time guidance, and improved customer interaction from anywhere and at any time,” the statement from the Commission read. “This move reflects our commitment to service innovation and citizen-centered engagement.”

Enhancing Public Trust and Security
Beyond convenience, the Commission emphasized that these official channels are vital for maintaining the integrity of the national identity system. By providing verified, direct communication lines, NIMC hopes to shield the public from exploitation by unofficial “agents” and fraudsters who often target vulnerable individuals seeking NIN services.

NIMC urged the public to remain vigilant and utilize only these official platforms for information. The Commission reiterated that the NIN remains a “magic number” for Nigerians, a critical tool for accessing banking services, telecommunications, international passports, and various social intervention programs.

Impact on the Digital Economy
The launch comes at a time of increased pressure on Nigeria’s digital infrastructure. With the recent mandate for mandatory linkage of NINs to financial and communication records, the demand for support has surged.
Industry analysts suggest that by digitizing its support desk, NIMC is not only clearing its physical backlogs but also supporting the broader National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS). By making identity management more accessible, the government facilitates easier participation in the formal economy for millions of residents.

As of this morning, the Live Chat feature is already operational, and the WhatsApp line is active, providing users with instant access to automated FAQs and human-led support for complex issues.
