The CEO of Financeblog9ja, Finance Queen, has called on Nigeria’s Presidency and the National Assembly to declare October 31 as national Financial Literacy Day.
With financial literacy rates critically low across the country, Financeblog9ja has emphasized the need for a designated annual observance to equip citizens, especially young people, with essential money management skills, budgeting tools and awareness to shun financial crimes.
Financeblog9ja says;
bridging the financial literacy gap is a crucial investment in Nigeria’s long-term economic stability.
Key Highlights of the Proposal
- Alignment with World Savings Day: October 31 is globally recognized as World Savings Day. Adopting this date integrates Nigeria into a global movement while driving local impact. If October 31 falls on a weekend, the observance would shift to the next school day.
- Broad Observance Across Sectors: The day is proposed to be observed annually across primary and secondary schools, tertiary institutions, corporate organizations, Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), NGOs, churches, and mosques.
- Not a Public Holiday: Clarifying the nature of the demand, Financeblog9ja notes that this will not be a public holiday. Instead, normal activities continue, but dedicated time is set aside for practical financial education.
- School Execution Plan: In primary and secondary schools, class teachers will deliver a 1-hour session on fundamental financial concepts, such as money management, saving, and avoiding illegal money-making schemes, followed by an interactive Q&A session.
